Types of Child Care

How to Choose a Child Care Provider
License Not Required:
Family child care: 2 children or a sibling group other than the care provider's own children

Registered License Not Required:
2 children or a sibling group, other than the care provider's own children and registered with the Child Care Resource and Referral program

Licensed Family Child Care:
7 children including the care providers own children under the age of 12. No more than: 3 children younger than 48 months old and, of those 3, no more than one child younger than 12 months old or 4 children younger than 48 months and of those 4, no more than 2 children younger than 24 months old.

Multi-Age In Home Child Care
Provision of care in licensed family setting to children of various ages to a maximum of 8 children. 

Licensed Group Child Care: Under 3 Years of age: Not more than 12 in a group (children under 3 years if age)

Licensed Group Child Care:
30 months to school aged: Not more than 25 in a group (children 30 months to school age).  

Licensed School Aged Care
Not more than 24 children in a group (kindergarten to age 12)

Licensed Preschool
Not more than 20 children in a group (30 months to school age) care for not more than 4 hours per day.
